Lesson 66/67

  I was away at the end of last week, but the class has now read up to the end of "Found."

 Today we talked about ways in which AI cannot replace essential human knowledge using this unfortunate PR issue.

We also saw a powwow dancer get ready with her jingle dress and regalia.

We looked at the campaign/techniques some future elders are using to teach the language to peers. 

We compared Travis and Lincoln to Angler fish 


 AAAAAND we reviewed essential quotations and ideas in the last two chapters. Students also received their summary work from some time ago (we were not doing pressing work with it, but I would have liked it returned sooner regardless).

 Welcome! Students found their seats, asked all the questions, looked over a course outline,  answered some get-to-know-you questions, and played a name scavenger hunt to get to know their classmates.  Next class, we will do some more icebreaker work, and then get down to work :)

  Students began class by listening to "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield, and thinking a bout the lyrics - A number of students forgot to bring a novel today, and those students had a bit of extra time to think... Students did the first of three sheets on capitalization. Students began a review of a standard plot diagram, and used this Cougar Cub Video to plot it out (please watch it at home if you missed today) HOMEWORK: Have a plan for recording homework (other than your phone) make sure your plot diagram for Cougar/Cub is complete, and bring a novel to next class.

Lesson 14

 We began today's class with students handing in the homework from last day - 1/3rd of the class did not have work to hand in. There is a clear trend for some students, and they should look to prioritize this early learning, or they will find themselves very behind in just a short time.  No one did a perfect job of the homework - as a result, we set about writing better statements, and critiquing them as a class. No group wrote a perfect statement. AND SO! Homework is to write a solid theme statement for "Barney," using the "How to Write a Theme Statement" sheet.  Please note: Students were encouraged to go to the Writing Lab for help with this work at lunch today, but most did not do so. The HWL is open Mon/Tues/Wed, and tutorials are open daily, apart from the FRIDAY OF WEEK 1.
